Kid Talk: Thinking about God

A good friend passed along some letters that children wrote to God and one note stuck me this morning…

OK… Elliot rocks!  Don’t you agree?

Elliot got me thinking today… to pause and reflect on my life.  If you are anything like me, life is throwing a lot of things your way right now.  We all find ourselves ‘busy‘: things to get done, plans to execute, ideas to flesh out, jobs to wrap-up, “honey do” projects around the house, events and activities for the kids, friends to hang out with, etc.  The old ‘plan my work and work my plan’… schedules, activities, things to accomplish.

And in the midst of the busy-ness of life,  I often find myself distracted, thinking about all I need to do or trying to figure out how I am going to make ends meet.  When I face a difficult decision or challenge, I turn to God in prayer.  That’s a good thing… to lean on God’s strength and not my own.

But little Elliot reminded me of something so true, so pure… I know how good it feels when one of my kids comes over to me and snuggles up next to me on the couch, not because they want me to get them some Girl Scout cookies and milk, but simply because they want to be with me. How my heart swells when they choose to be with me because they love me and like to be with me.

That’s what Elliot’s note to God brought to my mind.  I am certain God feels great when we think about him, draw near to him, not just when we need something (although he loves us to come to him then as well) but simply because we love him and like to be near him.

So I am encouraged today, from the heartfelt words of Elliot, to go to God, not just when I need something, but simply because I am thinking of him.  May he be on my mind and in my heart throughout each day.

OK… now I am going to find my kids and hug them!

Peace and blessings…

WordPress won’t let me leave it at that (”Comment too short”) so let me just say that was a very encouraging post. We need to be like Mary and sit at his feet once in a while.
