Technology: Good or bad for community?
I have heard many different takes on the idea of whether or not technology is good for building or developing community. Personally I believe it is all in how technology is used…
Sometimes it can hinder or even cut off the ‘personal’ side of communication…
…yet other times technology opens the doors to relationships that wouldn’t exist otherwise.
Here is a great example of the latter… not to mention a very cool video… enjoy!
(don’t worry about the picture of Keira… this is a very clean and good video!)
:: So what do you think? Is technology good or bad for community? Why?
Peace.

Technology “connects” people for good and bad. In your example of collaberation on-line with music-this is a good thing. This allows exchange of ideas and an outlet for self or team expression.

I think stuff like this is great. When applying for an MBA I looked at several schools. I knew I needed flexible hours, so online tuition seemed right for me. My best friend from college recommended a University (very close to you, I might add) that many people would say is a “pay to play” school. His comments were these, which I found refreshing, and ultimately led to my decision to attend, “We live in a net-centric, modern, collaborative society. I think it’s a decided benefit to say that I went to a net-centric, modern, collaborative university, rather than an archaic school so steeped in pedagogy and tradition that it has lost touch with the modern world.”
I have completed 25 page papers with people I have never met. I am actually thinking about collaborating online with an old high school buddy to do a similar project, musically.
