Connecting to God

scripture

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “….My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

John 17.1a, 20-23

reflection

“Prayer catapults us onto the frontier of the spiritual life. Of all the Spiritual Disciplines prayer is the most central because it ushers us into perpetual communion with the Father….it is the Discipline of prayer that brings us into the deepest and highest work of the human spirit. Real prayer is life creating and life changing….To pray is to change. Prayer is the central avenue God uses to transform us. If we are unwilling to change, we abandon prayer as a noticeable characteristic of our lives. The closer we come to the heartbeat of God the more we see our need and the more we desire to be conformed to Christ.”
